Our Dutch director wanted a small celebration, nothing extraordinary, for the 20th anniversary of the clinic. The already planned visit of the founder of Keru Yakaar, dr. Martine, was nicely timed. But his plans did were not readily accepted; the staff voiced out clearly that this needed to be celebrated as a true feast! And a feast it was…
A real party committee was set up, official invitations sent out (with beautiful French formulations), and free consultation for patients. The ceremony was a wonderful gathering with all the staff in party dress, speeches of all official guests, photos, history, dance, gifts, certificates, food and cake (yes, with 20 candles).
The highlight of the day came when the “chef de quartier” (a sort of mayor of the district) spoke. He was treated himself at the clinic for his diabetes and stressed in no uncertain terms the blessing that the clinic had been for the district.
It turned out to be a big celebration. A celebration of gratitude. Something that we’d actually want to celebrate each year…
