Youssou N’Dour is zonder twijfel de meest invloedrijke Senegalese muzikant. Toen ik op het vliegveld van Dakar een CD wilde kopen bleef de verkoper volhouden dat Youssou N’Dour nog steeds de beste Senegalese artiest is. In 1994 had hij een grote internationale hit met 7 Seconds een duet met Neneh Cherry.
Cherry zegt over dit lied: “7 Seconds gaat over de positieve eerste 7 seconden van het leven van een pasgeboren kind. Het weet niets van de problemen en het geweld in de wereld.” (1)
Het lied is in het Wolof, Frans en Engels. Over enkele jaren zorgen wij voor een Nederlandse vertaling 😉
